Wittenberg Bushwhack (7/3)
One of the most popular 3500 peaks in the Catskills, with good reason. And while we climb this one on-trail in April, sometimes you just want to hike in the wilderness without the crowds, so we take the longer route and hike this one off-trail, away from the conga line to the summit. We’ll travel through three ecosystems on our 2450’ climb, with a full third of the hike in the spruce fir summit forest. Emerging onto the incredible 270 degree summit views is even more spectacular when you’ve come up the hard way!
Cardio Intensity: Very Challenging.
Terrain: Primarily off-trail. Very steep, with some scrambling sections that require using hands for balance. Very dense forest on the approach to and at the summit.
