Wildflower Wednesdays--Mountain Laurel
Mountain Laurel
We love these spectacular flowers not only for their beauty and fragrance but also because their blooming heralds the arrival of Summer!
Native to the East Coast, Mountain Laurel is one of the iconic flowers of the Northeast, the state flower of both CT and PA. The individual pink & cream colored blooms are clustered together, giving the appearance of one large flower.
Mountain Laurel is an evergreen (never sheds leaves) shrub an adaptation that allows it to survive poor soils such as those found in Minnewaska State Park, one the best destinations for viewing (and smelling!) these awesome flowers.
