The Desert Calls and You Should Answer the Damn Phone!
We are very excited to announce that we've outlined our itinerary for this year's Wandering Out West Adventure!
When we sat down to plan for this year, we looked at what our hikers have enjoyed the most in years past, combined that extensive knowledge of this area and the result is this year's itinerary--the best yet! Of course, we'll still be exploring all the "must-see" spots: Zion, Bryce, Canyonlands; but, to make this adventure Extraordinary, we've integrated a few special "off-the-beaten-path" destinations that we're ready to share.
Please enjoy this photo preview that can offer a taste of what to expect at each of our destinations and if you're interested Let us know ASAP. Email info@destinationbackcountryadventures.com or call 718.208.9878
Wandering Out West! April 23-May 1, 2016!
Zion National Park--more photos at this link
Our first destination is less than 3 hours from Las Vegas, so we'll be hiking early on Sunday! We'll camp in the park at Watchman Campground (with a backcountry option!) and explore the West Rim, Angels Landing, and the Narrows.
On Monday morning, we'll depart Zion and drive through the Mt Carmel Tunnel to spend a half day playing among the "hoo-doos" at Bryce Canyon National Park--more photos at this link
We'll spend the afternoon and evening (in one of the finest campsites in the Southwest) at one of our hidden gems, Kodachrome State Park--more photos at this link
On Tuesday, we'll depart Kodachrome and head east along Scenic Rt. 12 into the Canyons of the Escalante, and up and across the Aquarius Plateau, finally descending into gorgeous (& historic) Capitol Reef National Park--one of the most breathtaking stretches of road in America. On this route, we'll have the time (and knowledge!) to explore more "off the beaten path" spots unknown to the masses in Escalante & Capitol Reef National Park--more photos at this link.
After Tuesday night in a motel in the outdoor mecca of the Southwest, Moab (plus an amazing dinner at Milt’s, one of the best diners in the US), we'll catch the early morning light on Wednesday in nearby Arches National Park--more photos at this link.
That afternoon, we'll enter one of the most amazing places on the planet, Canyonlands National Park--more photos at this link.
We'll camp and explore in Canyonlands for 2 nights, enjoying the choice of a gorgeous developed campground or a night in the backcountry. Because, to be clear, this is what Canyonlands looks like...
On Friday morning, we'll visit the site of some many classic movie scenes, Monument Valley--more photos at this link.
and the Vermillion Cliffs...
Before we arrive at the Grand Canyon--more photos at this link.
Of course, we want to give you an Extraordinary experience, so we'll be avoiding the crowds of the South Rim and visiting the North Rim. Where we'll be staying in cabins and experiencing views like this on Saturday's sunrise hike!
We'll bid adieu to the multi-colored canyons of the desert and head to the colored neon lights on Vegas for a night in a nice hotel to kick back and celebrate! NO Photos here :)
