Our Favorite Post-Hike Breweries in the Catskills
Coffee tastes better in the backcountry, and beer tastes best after a day of hiking. Lucky for us, the Catskills offers a unique combination of wilderness and wild forest areas interspersed with rustic small towns, which means that we can end a great day on trail (or off-trail) with a stop at our favorite local brewery.
Our Brews & Views trips combine day hikes and backpacking adventures with a stop at a local brewery on the way home. Check out a few of our favorite Catskill breweries below.
Northeastern Catskill Breweries
Rip Van Winkle Brewing Company
Located conveniently near great hiking trails on the escarpment and at North and South Lake, Rip Van Winkle offers seven in-house taps and great food options in their restaurant.
Subversive Malting + Brewing
A little further afield you’ll find Subversive in the town of Catskill right off the Hudson River. This brewery offers great outdoor space perfect for the whole family and is well worth the extra drive from the trailhead. Don't miss Main Street in Catskill if you have a little extra time.
Central Catskill Breweries

A staple of the central Catskills located a stone’s throw from Diamond Notch Falls and the eastern Devil’s Path, West Kill Brewing offers great brews and food from an on-site kitchen and food truck. West Kill has been key to the revitalization of Spruceton Valley, with a gorgeous tap room and picturesque outdoor space.
Woodstock Brewing
Woodstock Brewing offers a wide variety of craft beers, along with signature beer cocktails, plus a menu of tacos, sandwiches, and other bites.

Located in “Trout Town, USA,” Roscoe Beer Co started in a converted firehouse and has expanded into a tasting room, gift shop, and beer garden. They offer 30 minute brewery tours on Saturdays at 1pm, guided by a brewer.
Catskill Brewery
With a focus on sustainability, Catskill Brewery uses pure Catskill Mountain water and brews their beers in a Gold Leed certified building to support their mission of making great beer while protecting their home in the Catskill Mountains.
