Team-Building Day Hike and Brewery Visit
Purpose: Team Building & New Employee Engagement
Client Goals: Facilitate team and relationship building for 100+ new employees hired during the pandemic who had never met in person.
Custom Itinerary: DBA created custom routes within a wild forest so each participant had the option to choose an itinerary ideal for their comfort level, skills, and interest, with options for a Gentle, Moderate, Challenging, and Strenuous hike. Our head guides promoted connection in small-group settings on trail before bringing multiple groups together at a local brewery and restaurant for a chance to bond across teams and divisions within the company.
Outcome/Testimonial: Our clients were so pleased with the impact on their teams they now offer this opportunity 4-5 times a year for new employees, interns, and existing employees to continue facilitating company-wide engagement.
Survival School Leadership Training
Purpose: Sales Management Training & Team Bonding
Client Goals: A Vice President of Sales wanted to provide his sales managers, primarily more junior employees, with a meaningful skills-building experience outside of the office that also incorporated team bonding
Custom Itinerary: For this small group trip, DBA created a leadership skills training course taught through backcountry skills. Starting with the "psychology of survival" the group then split up into smaller teams tasked with determining top priorities in a mock survival situation.
Outcome/Testimonial: The group learned new strategies for effective communication and priority setting in high-pressure situations, while taking on fun tasks like building a survival shelter. The overnight experience also included natural bonding time over signature DBA meals and conversations around the campfire. The VP now hosts this trip annually for his team; returning employees learn new skills in leadership and teaching positions, while new employees learn essential transferable skills.
International Company Annual Retreat
Purpose: Team & Culture Building
Client Goals: Provide a fun and engaging environment for employees across international offices to meet, build culture, and create enduring new relationships.
Custom Itinerary: DBA built a diverse itinerary that combined gentle outdoor activities like canoeing on a gorgeous lake and a gentle hike, with backcountry skills lessons like lighting a fire without matches. This allowed the group to bond in a novel, engaging, and low-pressure environment. DBA also used local knowledge to facilitate bookings at a local rustic inn and dinner reservations for the group at a celebrated local restaurant.
Outcome/Testimonial: The client has now incorporated a DBA adventure into their annual company retreat with new team building activities and venues every year.
Navigation for a Company Interest Group
Purpose: Navigation Skill Building & Backcountry Safety
Client Goals: Employees in a company sponsored hiking group had a harrowing experience on trail and our client requested custom classes on navigation, hiking, and backcountry safety.
Custom Itinerary: DBA designed and taught custom lessons on-site, including map reading, compass navigation, the ten safety essentials, tips for beginner hikers, and more! Employees then put their new skills to the test with a hands-on navigation activity.
Outcome/Testimonial: Employees and the company increased comfort and confidence for continued interest group hiking activities after being taught by professional NYS-licensed guides with decades of combined teaching experience.

Vice President of Sales at HomeAdvisor
Ken Grisback
"Our team is always looking for innovative ways to enhance our leadership skills. Over the past 4 years, we have partnered with Dave and the DBA team to learn valuable lessons like collaboration, communication, and problem-solving. Our group loves being out in the wilderness away from day-to-day distractions so they can focus on the task at hand. We always walk away with practical skills that we can put the test immediately. We also walk away with some great stories and memories that will last a lifetime!"
